01-04-2021 Prompt A PLACE ON MY BODY by Ampat Koshy

No city can match the velocity and pace of this throbbing metropolis

Rattling local trains bustling markets

Extended coastline aligned to high rises

Glistening sandy beaches

Din of the stock exchange din of the fish market

Tons of fresh flowers unloaded at Dadar station

The squalor of the tracks and unbelievably vast slums

Above all the populace

Running, running a silly rat race

Learning,  literature, schools and universities

So many races and religions exist in diversity

Bombay divided into two major sections

The workers and the Seths

Politicians gangsters film makers and stars

Taking care of the wealth in the city

Then one day the city exploded

Bombs ripped apart its secular body

Sprouting fountains of blood from her heart, head and belly

The throbbing heart was still

The scars would never heal

The sores spread throughout the country

Now it bleeds in many places

I pray my country be stitched and healed

May the wounds dry and the skin shine

The fields sing and the crops grow

When will I hear those songs again

Oh pray when will my India be whole again
