NAPOWRIMO 2021 Prompt 2 Hymn of the Night lopa Bannerji

Let the night sing, said my friend

And the night simply smiled

I have no time it said

I’m so occupied

Though you colour me in moony romance

And twinkling million stars

In my bosom caterpillars grow wings

And buds bloom into flowers

Scorn me not you mighty sun

My dark has more vision than you can see

Yours is the realm of masked painted skins

Mine the domain of naked open souls be

I am the shroud of the sinner and betrayer

I’m a prayer for lost wicked souls

I’m the forgiveness daily forgotten

I awake you in your dreams

I’m the solace of the seeker

Who seeks light in the dark world

While the world sleeps the earth is awake giving rebirth

Joining fractured fibres constructing brittle compounds

Healing wounds and heartbreaks filling pores in the ground

Healing the sick giving strength to the weak

Holding on the ravenous tides as they rise the moon to see

Succour to pounding hearts screen to secret lovers

Saving the crushed and trampled beings

The night is filled with matters of the heart and mind

It’s the mirror walled room wherein yourself you can find

If you look for the truth and truthfully too

You sing for the night and the night sings for you
